The refractometer factor or Brix factor for CNC fluid concentrate is a multiplier used to convert the refractometer readings (Brix scale) into the actual concentration of the emulsion (concentrate + water).
EASYCUT PRO302 is a universal water-miscible semi-synthetic coolant for CNC machining of aluminum, carbon and alloy steel, cast iron and titanium, with yellow metals up to a quarter of the work. Its additive package includes inhibitors made for aluminum, so it can be used on any aluminum alloy. For a shop that cuts a bit of everything, it is the default choice in the EASYCUT range.
Aluminum is where coolants differ most: it smears, builds up on the edge and stains if the chemistry is wrong. In a lab tapping torque test in aluminum, PRO302 needed about 7 % less torque than UNI301, and its peak torque dropped from 70 to 63 Ncm. Lower torque means better lubrication at the edge — cleaner threads and less built-up edge — for a small difference in price.
| Operation | Concentration | Refractometer reading (°Brix) |
|---|---|---|
| Grinding | 4–6 % | 3.1–4.6 |
| Turning, milling — steel, cast iron, titanium | 6–8 % | 4.6–6.2 |
| Turning, milling — aluminum | 7–10 % | 5.4–7.7 |
The refractometer factor is 1.3: multiply the °Brix reading by 1.3. In a mixed shop, set the sump for the material you cut most — usually 7–8 % covers both aluminum and steel. Add the concentrate to the water while stirring, or use a coolant mixer, and top up with premixed coolant; the coolant calculator does the arithmetic.
PRO302 forms a stable emulsion in water from 5 to 30 °dH (about 90–530 ppm hardness) and tolerates up to 60 °dH (about 1070 ppm) in service. In water within that range it foams little, which matters on through-spindle and high-pressure systems. A fresh 5 % emulsion has a pH of 9.9.

The 55-gallon drum is the working size for a shop running PRO302 in its CNC machines: at 7 % it makes about 780 gallons of working coolant, at a lower price per litre than the pail. To try PRO302 in one machine, or for top-ups, take the 5-gallon pail; for central systems and larger shops, the 270-gallon tote has the best price per litre. Small variations in colour between batches are normal. Safe handling is covered in the SDS.
